The latest iPad Pro 2021 with a mini LED screen could land soon

For a while, we've been hearing that Apple will update the screen to a future iPad model, offering a mini LED screen instead of an LCD screen, and now it seems like that day will come sooner rather than later.

In the first quarter of 2021, DigiTimes says that it expects Apple to "possibly" introduce a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini LED screen (so by the end of March).

However, as the site may not sound very confident, we will take this with a pinch of salt, and it appears to have come to this conclusion based on statements from Epistar's company president, Fan Chin-yung, that "mini LED chip shipments will begin to contribute to consolidated revenues in the first quarter of 2021."

  • The best tablets are these
  • And the best iPads are these.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S21 will be released very soon.
Later, it may land

Epistar produces LEDs, so if it did not have customers lined up, it would probably not make this statement, although there is no confirmation that Apple is one of them, and Fan Chin-yung further claimed, according to DigiTimes, that large-volume shipments of mini LED chips would not begin until the second or third quarter, and that revenues from them would not peak until then either.

So it sounds to us like a mini LED iPad Pro might not arrive until later in 2021, if it will be launched at all this year.

Even, at some point in 2021, it's not the first time we've learned that there could be a mini LED iPad Pro, and it's a move we'd like to see, as mini LEDs will enhance contrast and color reproduction, as well as being more energy efficient than an LCD panel.

The iPad Pro 2020 was launched back in March, so this coming March we might well see an iPad Pro 2021, whether or not it uses this new screen technology. If there's such a slate that we'd predict a lot of leaks and speculation in the coming weeks and months soon, stay tuned for all the updates to TechRadar.
