The National Telecommunications Commission stated in a statement on Monday that the group has delivered on its first-year commitments.

The new player, sponsored by Davao's Dennis Uy and state-run China Telecommunications, vowed to provide an average broadband speed of 27 megabits per second for its first year of operations, covering 37 percent of the population of the country.

Citing the technical audit results undertaken by the independent auditor, R.G. DITO's average broadband speed, Manabat, and Co., reached a whopping 507.5 Mbps for 5G and 85.9 Mbps for 4G.

Based on the 2015 national census population of 100,983,124, its coverage, meanwhile, reached 37.48 percent or 37,845,315. This is equal to 8,860 barangays in total.

The auditor concentrated on a percentage of the 1,600 sites found that comprise the country's 8,800 barangays.

DITO Telecommunity is scheduled to launch commercially in March this year, initially aiming to tap into the markets of Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

"DITO's entry in the market is a welcome development in the telco industry," the NTC said.

The regulator emphasized that this would pave the way for "healthier competition" in the market, where "cheaper prices and improved internet speed." could be expected to be seen by Filipino consumers.
